PCB ASSEMBLY - AXIAL AND RADIAL PTH

In addition to offering PCB assembly on our SMT lines, Axiom offers the flexibility of manufacturing legacy and mixed technology products by utilising extensive automated component insertion equipment. We are able to retain our older plant because of the space that we have at our factory, enabling us to offer customers added flexibility in the services offered.

Axial insertion consists of dual head/anvil VCD systems controlled by board error correction (BEC). Axiom’s radial equipment employs a conventional guide-pin system and clinch detection to enable 2.5mm, 5mm and selectable centre pin for transistor insertion.

Both axial and radial component insertion is programmed by TIMMS technology ensuring the highest levels of efficiency and build standard control are achieved.

Axiom specialises in low to medium volume PCB assembly within the aerospace, defence, medical and industrial markets. All of our PCB assembly is undertaken in house by a team of dedicated and highly trained employees (IPC) who have been with the company for a long time. Our extensive quality standards means that you can expect consistent high quality PCB assembly and attention to detail.

Maximum efficiency is achieved by TIMMS programming in addition to flexible placement platforms, capable of achieving in excess of 34,000 68000 chips per hour (CPH). The modular feeder cart system enables machine changeover time to be minimised to less than 10 minutes.

The SMT placement capabilities include:

BGA , Micro BGA, CCGA, CSP’s, Double and single side reflow, 0402/0201/01005 01005/0201/01005, Flip Chip, MCMs, MEMs and Complex Connectors (150mm x 0.3mm pitch)

Test is optional for PCB assembly, and is driven by customer requirement. We do however always recommend that customers implement a test strategy with us.

PCB ASSEMBLY HAND INSERTION

Our PCB assembly extends to offering hand insertion of components. Not all components are suitable to go through an automated process. This is when the added benefit of having fully trained operators with an eye for detail completes our PCB assembly services.

Complementing the hand insert process is a dedicated pre-assembly, component preparation area allowing sub-assembly of components, component forming and leg cutting, delivering high post bath efficiencies to be achieved to IPC assembly specifications.

CONFORMAL COATING

Axiom has invested in a fully automated, robotic, precision conformal coating system, providing highly accurate application of conformal coatings to printed circuit board assemblies by way of a 4 axis spray head system.

Conformal coatings can protect the operational integrity of the printed circuit board assembly, especially where high reliability or exposure to harsh operating environments typical of Aerospace, Defence, Medical, Industrial and Automotive applications are to be experienced.

The PVA 2000 eliminates component masking and circuit board handling enabling application cycle times and quality to be significantly improved upon in comparison to conventional application methods. This automated process allows the safe selection and extraction of product-specific chemicals.
