Air Launched Munitions (ALM)

The Air Launched Munitions IPT (ALM IPT) is responsible for managing the level of in-service logistics support needed to ensure the operational and airworthiness requirements for air launched munitions and associated equipment within the 3 Services, and, where applicable, other nations.

 

 



The ALM IPT is primarily located at RAF Wyton in Cambridgeshire. The IPT also has a small Brimstone Project Team based in Abbey Wood, Bristol and a small technical team based at RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire. responsible for technical assistance, advice and support for armament systems and weapons to all customers and IPTs.

The ALM IPT has a total strength of around 145 staff from the Royal Air Force, the Royal Navy and the Civil Service. It provides logistics support for in-service air launched weapons systems, RAIDS and associated release equipment and aircraft guns. In all, ALM IPT manages some 14 major weapons projects or equipment groupings and following the partnering contracts with Raytheon, MBDA, Portsmouth Aviation and EDO MBM works with approximately 20 industry suppliers.

The IPT is organised into three programme branches plus three supporting branches.

Air Weapons 1 is responsible for the in-service management of those air launched weapons & equipment where the prime contractor is MBDA UK Ltd under the partnering principles of Project RevISE.

Air Weapons 2 is responsible for the in-service management of those air launched munitions procured through Raytheon Company under the partnering principles of Programme RaPID. AW2 represents the IPTL on tri-Service munition issues and represents the UK on the NATO Standardisation Agency Air Armament Panel.

Air Weapons 3 is responsible for the In-Service management of CRV-7 (Fixed Wing), Sidewinder, Aircraft Guns (Fixed and Rotary Wing), plus 3kg and 14 kg Practice bombs, Suspension, Carriage and Release equipment through partnering arrangements with Portsmouth Aviation and EDO MBM.
