British Airline Fleets

In an emergency, the UK Government has the power to enlist the assistance of the United Kingdom's civil airline and aircraft charter fleets. In total, there are over 50 registered airlines and aircraft charter companies operating over 930 fixed-wing passenger and transport aircraft and over 400 helicopters.

The largest of the British-registered airlines is British Airways operating about 250 aircraft, carrying on average about 35 million passengers per year. Other major British airlines include Virgin Atlantic with 30 aircraft, Britair with 41 aircraft, the discount airline Easyjet with 112 aircraft.

Bristow Helicopters - UK subsidiary of Offshore Logistics is the largest helicopter charter operator with a fleet of some 300 helicopters. British companies employ some 10,000 trained pilots active in commercial operations in the UK.
