Regimental War Tales - The Mercian Regiment from R&F Defence Publications
|
|
This short book of War Tales is not a Regimental History. When one
considers that the Mercian Regiment sprang from nine original
Regiments, and that well over half a million men wore their cap
badges in the Great War alone, it is obvious that such a History
would be a considerable volume. It is instead a collection of
stories that illustrate the adventures and hardships of our
Regimental ancestors.
This is not ancient history. I have served with men who fought in
the Second World War, some of them fought with men who served in
the Great War and so on. These stories are from some ten unbroken
generations of soldiering. They give a taste of the bravery,
discipline and comradeship that is our heritage in today’s
Regiment. The stories are drawn from over three hundred years of
hard service all over the world.
