Reflexcell™ products are being deployed extensively with Military Forces
World-Wide. Thousands of Blizzard Survival Blankets are being deployed
by front line units in Iraq and Afghanistan, as part of a new strategy
to eliminate avoidable deaths on the battlefield.
Blizzard Survival
products made from our exclusive Reflexcell™material are rapidly taking
over from single-skinned ‘space blankets’ and survival bags - because
they perform better in every respect.
Derek Ryden, who invented the material, said: “Military purchasers have
been amongst the first to recognise the potential of Reflexcell™ - just as
they did with Gore-Tex® more than 20 years ago.”

Into Action With The
US Army
Thousands of Blizzard Survival Blankets are being deployed by front line
units in Iraq and Afghanistan, as part of a new strategy to eliminate
avoidable deaths on the battlefield.
‘Use Blizzard Survival Blanket First' Says Trauma Guide
US Army medics are now trained to wrap casualties in Blizzard Survival
Blankets as their first response to preventing hypothermia in trauma
cases - even in hot weather.
Tens of thousands of Blizzard Survival Blankets are being incorporated
in a new Hypothermia Prevention and Management Kit™ (HPMK NSN#
6515-01-532-8056), developed by US military medical equipment
specialists North American Rescue Products (www.narescue.com). The HPMK
further enhances the Blizzard Survival Blanket's effectiveness with the
addition of a self-heating pad and a thermal skull cap.
The Blizzard Survival
Blanket is recommended as the first choice for keeping casualties warm
by the 2007 Prehospital Trauma Life Support Military Version Sixth
Edition (PHTLS Military Version 6E), produced by the globally respected
National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT).
PHTLS says medics' initial response to trauma cases should be: “After
any immediate life-threatening issues are addressed, wet clothes should
be replaced with dry clothes, if possible, and the casualty should be
wrapped in a Blizzard Survival Blanket.”
Hypothermia in trauma cases occurs regardless of ambient temperature,
PHTLS says, and prevention is far easier than correcting it: so stopping
heat loss should begin as soon as possible after wounding.
The guide places the Blizzard Survival Blanket first in a ‘hierarchical
equipment list for prevention and treatment of hypothermia'.
Blizzard products represent a step change in the way both civilian and
military trauma cases should be treated.
Blizzard Wins Royal Marines Arctic Trials
A report by the British
Royal Marines has proved that Blizzard Survival Bags are up four times
more effective in cold weather warfare conditions than current issue UK
army survival bags.
The three day trials were conducted in Arctic Norway, at temperatures
down to -13°C (8.6°F).
They also showed that our Reflexcell™ material kept soldiers warm up to
three times longer than bivvy bags commonly used by civilian
mountaineers.
Pilots Bank On Blizzard For Personal Survival
British Army pilots of the new AH-64 Apache helicopter will carry
Blizzard Survival Bags in their personal survival packs (PSPs) when they
go into service in Afghanistan.
Our bags are also being recommended as standard equipment for the new
Eurofighter Typhoon and Joint Combat Aircraft (JCA).
The Blizzard Survival Bag's small pack size make it ideal for personal
survival kits on new generations of aircraft.
The deployment in Apaches and recommendation for fighters follows trials
at RAF St. Mawgan's Defence Survival, Evasion Resistance & Extraction
Training Organisation.
They proved that the Blizzard Survival Bag is the only product in the
world to provide effective protection against the elements for downed
and injured aircrew, while being small enough to pack into the cockpits
of new generations of aircraft.
The Blizzard Survival Bag has been chosen for the Apache because, unlike
air force pilots, British Army pilots have to carry combat equipment
with them in the cockpit. This leaves less room for personal survival
packs.
RAF St. Mawgan has recommended the bags for the Typhoon and JCA because
their cold weather PSPs do not have space for conventional sleeping bags
carried in earlier aircraft.
The Blizzard Survival Bag is the only product available which will fit
the new packs and enable crew, who may be shocked, injured and ejecting
into poor weather conditions, to survive for up to 72 hours.
New Blizzard Survival
Jacket M packs in a pocket
A new version of the
revolutionary Blizzard Survival Jacket has been developed as an
ultralight thermal garment specially for military personnel operating in
extreme weather.
The Blizzard Survival Jacket M enhances the effectiveness of Blizzard’s
standard vest-style jackets with the addition of full-length polythene
sleeves.
|
These give
additional protection against wind chill, and can be pulled inside
the garment when it is being used as a micro-shelter to create a
100% effective wind seal.
The Blizzard
Survival Jacket M is fully reversible, so it can be worn with its
drab or highly reflective silver surfaces showing, to aid search
and rescue. The military version is slightly shorter than the
standard jacket, for even greater mobility and a small pack size.
In its vacuum pack, it is smaller than a video cassette, measuring
13 x 11 x 3 cm (5.1 x 4.3 x 1.2 in) and weighing just 220 gm (8
oz). As with standard jackets, the body and hood are made from
Blizzard’s unique, ultralight Reflexcell™ insulating material,
which is totally waterproof, windproof, tough and re-useable.
EXTRA FEATURES
We’ve added the new features at the request of the UK Defence
Clothing Integrated Project Team in Bicester, to create the
ultimate lightweight garment for service personnel operating in
extreme weather conditions. Even the hood can be fully closed with
a Velcro fastener for extra weather protection.
Nothing else on the market provides this
jacket’s combination of performance, versatility and compactness. It’s
tailor-made for military users.
