ICE RINKS

The result has been a hectic time for De Boer, who has been called upon to provide a wide range of temporary options for budding skaters. We have provided short-term venues for use as ice rinks across many countries in Europe.

Europe has seen a burgeoning interest in ice skating during its winter months, with the public following their counterparts in New York by swapping their shopping for skating in the pre-Christmas and New Year periods.

But the trend has highlighted the limited number of permanent ice rinks available – and has prompted a growing number of local authorities and leisure providers to turn to innovative short-term solutions instead.

De Boer’s flexible solutions mean that temporary accommodation can reflect the exact requirements of each client.

Structures can be erected just about anywhere, with separate facilities provided for skate hire areas, toilets or catering services. We have even helped create a temporary ice rink in one of the busiest locations in central London – on the roundabout at Marble Arch.

The Company had just one week from quoting for the job to the actual build, with the whole operation needing to be carried out in an extremely restricted space. We also had to contend with various different ground levels on the site without the option of using scaffolding because the overall height would have been raised too high.

The Company’s innovative solution at Marble Arch enabled the client to include a skate hire room and first-aid area within the development – and even incorporated the location’s plant beds in the overall project.

The temporary ice rinks have proved so popular because of their tremendous flexibility. Working with portable icefloor specialists, De Boer has provided structures of various shapes and sizes.
