Rapid supply, deployment and relocation: the key to rapid response

Military Rapid Deployment Shelters from Rubb Buildings Ltd

Hot on the heels of supplying the British Army with 85 personnel shelters (Improved Tented Camps) for the severe winter weather conditions of Bosnia, Rubb has further developed its product line to meet new military requirements.

In-line with the establishment of Britain's new Rapid Deployment Force, for quick response to crises around the world, Rubb has created a range of RDS - Rapid Deployment Shelters. The original product was manufactured to meet United Nations requirements for Sierra Leone when a total of 115 19.6' x 19.6' (6m x 6m) shelters were needed within an 8 week period.

There are four main benefits to the RDS:

  • The shelters take up little storage space and are therefore easy to transport. Up to 29 individual shelters can be stored in one 40' (12.19m) container.

  • Each shelter can be fully erected within 2 hours by a team of four with no requirement for heavy lifting equipment.

  • Once erected, the shelters can be interlinked to form larger facilities, and are supplied with groundsheets, flooring and an easy to install lighting systems.

  • The shelters can be climatically controlled to meet the variety of worldwide climates.

The RDS is a direct result of Rubb's policy of continuous research and development to help meet rapidly changing military requirements. The RDS has been further refined and is now available in lightweight and heavyweight versions to meet varying weather conditions.

Helicopter Hangars, Rapid Erect Military Hangars

Rapid Erect Hangars from Rubb Buildings Ltd

Rapid Erect Hangars (REH) have been supplied to several military forces from the UK to the Middle East.

Used as helicopter hangars and field shelters for fixed wing military aircraft, Rubb Military Rapid Erect Hangars have endured the harshest environments on earth. The compact size, rapid deployability and portability of these hangars makes them ideal for rigorous military use.

The Rubb Military Rapid Erect Hangar consists of a steel truss and is made in two standard sizes:

  • 76.1' (23.2m) wide x 118.1' (36m) long with 7m side wall

  • 59' (18m) wide x 65.6' (20m) long with 7m side wall

The Rapid Erect Hangar has two unique characteristics:

Rapid Erect Hangars from Rubb Buildings Ltd

First, it can be erected without the use of a crane. Special levered joints and pulley / winch systems allow the structure to be erected on the ground and then lifted into the upright position.

Second, by removing two roof sections, the structure is reduced from 76.1' (23.2m) width to 59' (18m) width. This gives maximum operational flexibility and allows users to protect a wide variety of aircraft with the same structure.

The Rapid Erect Hangar can accommodate fixed wing fighter aircraft and twin rotor helicopters. These structures are extensively used by the Royal Air Force in the UK.

Rapid Environmental Shelter, Helicopter Shelters

Rapid Environmental Shelter (RES) from Rubb Buildings Ltd is a further development of the Rapid Erect Hangar

The Rapid Environmental Shelter (RES) is a further development of the Rapid Erect Hangar.

It is lighter, faster to erect and more compact to transport, making it an ideal field fixed-width aircraft or helicopter shelter.

The entire structure with a width of 66.9' (20.4m) will fit into a 20' (6.09m) ISO container.

Rapid Environmental Shelter (RES) from Rubb Buildings Ltd is a further development of the Rapid Erect Hangar

The structure is designed in aluminium and for Rubb it is the first time we have used our Trident door in our military structures. The Rapid Environmental Shelter is the latest in large rapid deployment structures and we believe it surpasses any similar structure in the industry. It is designed to take high snow and wind loads allowing it to be used in virtually any operational environment. Numerous RES structures have been ordered by the RAF in the UK as shelters for both fixed wing aircraft and helicopters.

This particular building has been developed for rapid deployment and erection using a minimum workforce of 8 trained personnel and without the aid of any mechanical lifting equipment.

Span: 66.9' (20.4m)
Leg Height: 13.77' (4.2m)
O/all Height: 27.23' (8.3m)
O/all Length: 94.42' (30m)

From this: To this in eight hours
The Rubb Rapid Environmental Shelter fits in a single ISO container The Rubb Rapid Environmental Shelter can take high wind loads and be erected fast

Military Sun Shades/Canopies

Rubb Sun Shades and Canopies are used by the USAF and RAF in desert / hot climate conditions to protect aircraft and munitions from the effects of direct sun light / heat.

Rapidly assembled shelter for aircraft and munitions

Rubb Sun Shades are manufactured from single box sections and are available in a variety of sizes:

59' x 59' x 21.32' (18 x 18 x 6.5m)
39.37' x 52.49 x 13.12' (12 x 16 x 4m)
75.45' x 59' x 16.4' (23 x 18 x 5m)
75.45' x 59' x 22.96' (23 x 18 x 7m)

Rubb Sun Shades and Canopies are used by the USAF and RAF in desert / hot climate conditions to protect aircraft and munitions from the effects of direct sun light / heat.

Over 100 such canopies are used in the Middle East and accommodate aircraft as large as twin rotor helicopters.

The Sun Canopy is erected without the need for a crane using a leverage / winch system similar to the type used with our REH structures.
