LEAD FREE ASSEMBLY
The RoHS Directive (Reduction of Hazardous Substances) which involves
the banning of certain substances that could end up in land fill sites
caused Ultra Electronics CEMS to re‑evaluate their manufacturing
strategy with positive results.
In 2003, Ultra Electronics CEMS drew up the lead-free road map for their
manufacturing facility. Following extensive trials they developed a
capable process for both wave soldering and reflow soldering use lead
free solders.
This had given Ultra Electronics CEMS the additional benefit of being
one of the first manufacturers to offer true lead free soldering to
clients who have products which operate in high temperature environments
and those keen to embrace the new legislation and directives early as
part of their business plans.
Taking care of our future
Ultra Electronics CEMS environmental policy is at the heart of our
manufacturing strategy.
In particular, they aim to reduce the impact on our environment in the
following ways:-
Ultra Electronics CEMS endeavour to be compliant with relevant
environmental legislation.
Ultra Electronics CEMS are committed to continuous improvement. As such,
a Continuous Improvement Team (C.I.T) meet at regular intervals to
discuss, review and implement environmental improvements.
Ultra Electronics CEMS endeavour to minimise the use of all raw
materials, energy and supplies, wherever possible, to include recycling
of paper, cardboard, ink cartridges and waste from their processes and
manufacturing operations.
Any relevant issues to staff are broadcast in company team briefs. Staff
training is carried out where appropriate and new employees are made
aware of the company environmental policy.
Ultra requests Suppliers to use recyclable materials where possible.
Re-useable packaging is used for as many of their customers as possible.
Summary
Ultra Electronics CEMS continues to set the pace in developing processes
and supply chains which are kinder on the environment. They have been
manufacturing products in Weymouth for over 40 years and intend to
create the right conditions for their company to prosper and co-exist
with the local community for the next forty.
