Vehicle NBC Systems from MDH Defence
|
There are many
variations in the detailed technologies available to meet vehicle
COLPRO requirements. MDH Defence has wide experience in specifying
correct vehicle fits. Key solutions vary from major systems for
comprehensive protection against a broad range of threats, to smaller
packs concentrating on specific hazards.
The Vickers Challenger 2 main UK battle tank uses a 340m3 hr-1 NBC
system incorporating the standard 170m3 hr-1 composite filter
conforming to NATO standards.
The filter system is designed to filter
out both biological and chemical agents to a very high level. The
Challenger 2 NBC system also incorporates the MDH inertial separator
(cyclone) which is the first stage dust separator, and a control box
fitted with a membrane keyboard giving clear and accurate system
information. As with other important sub-systems, the COLPRO equipment
needs to be fully integrated for optimum operational effectiveness.
MDH Defence has had many years practical, effective experience of
systems integration with Vickers Defence Systems.
The
prototype Hagglund CV90s for the Swedish Army were fitted with 170m3
hr-1 NBC systems designed and developed by MDH Defence. These systems
operate in conjunction with a water to air heat exchanger and include
face mask, purge, and ventilation (NBC by-pass) modes.

The first stage filter (cyclone) removes coarser particles with the
second, Ultra High Efficiency (UHE) stage, removing the finer
particles. This second stage filtration system protects crews against
dust, smoke, biological and nuclear hazards, and some crowd control
agents. The final anti-vapour stage ensures removal of toxic vapours.
