The
Bowman project will see the replacement of the Clansman Combat Net Radio
(CNR) with a secure voice and data service and lay the basis for the
subsequent and incremental digitisation of the land battle space.
Bowman will provide battlefield communications for those elements of all
three armed services that take part in, or provide direct support to,
land operations. It is the primary means of command and control below
brigade level in the land battle.
Key
features will include secure all-informed communications, an ability to
work whilst platforms are on the move, no dependence on static
infrastructures, small size, low weight and simplicity. It will be
installed into all operational platforms and should require minimal
dedicated role vehicles.
