Low-cost
optical LAN testing
Specifically designed to make checking and
fault-finding quick and easy on fibre-optic data networks, the new XC850
cross-checking reflectometer from Megger provides state-of-the-art
performance with simplicity of use at a very competitive price.
The key operating parameters of the instrument are preset to suit the
requirements of data network installations, and the user is guided
through the measurement, automatic trace analysis and storage procedures
by intuitive control keys.
Adaptable
to the operator's needs
Operator preferences are easily configured using
menu screens on the instrument, or they can be set up using a PC, and be
simply downloaded to the XC850 via the plug-in memory card. Not only
does this eliminate time spent on setting up the instrument on-site, it
also means that operators can carry out tests accurately and effectively
without requiring extensive training or experience in using optical
time-domain reflectometers (OTDRs).
High
resolution
Megger's XC850 cross-checking reflectometer
operates at 850nm, and can be used on fibre systems up to 2km in length,
with losses of up to 13dB. The distance resolution is 0.5 metre, and the
event deadzone (-40db reflection) is less than 1 metre.
The unit is available in two versions: the XC850ST is fitted with a
brilliant backlit colour display which is ideal for indoor applications,
while the XC850SSR features a transflective colour display which can be
easily read indoors and in bright outdoor daylight. Both versions
include a full alpha-numeric keyboard which greatly simplifies the entry
of the identification data relating to individual tests.
OTDR
software compatible
Data entry via an external barcode scanner is
also supported. Configuration data, test identification data and
measurement traces are stored on removable memory cards in Telcordia
GR196 format, as well as in standard CSV format, ensuring compatibility
with virtually all OTDR software packages and with Microsoft Office
applications.
