The role of 2 Group
is to provide the operational ‘reach’ and the associated support to
UK operations world-wide from its Headquarters at High Wycombe.
No 2 Group provides the RAF with Air Transport and Air-to-Air
Refuelling (AT/AAR), and ISTAR (Intelligence
Surveillance, Targeting and Reconnaissance). The Group operates from
5 flying stations with 26
squadrons. Aircraft and ground stations operate a large array of
defensive and offensive systems.
No 2 Group is also responsible for Expedionary Air Groups, Force
Protection (FP) with units
under command including the RAF Regiment, RAF Police and the CBRN
Protection capability at RAF Honington.
