APPLELEAF CLASS - SUPPORT TANKERS


The amphibious dock landing ship USS Carter Hall (right) performs a replenishment at sea (RAS) with the Royal Fleet Auxiliary ship RFA Bayleaf (A 109).

RFA Orangeleaf was built by Cammell Laird, being launched in 1973. She was accepted into service in 1979.

Support Tankers have the dual role of both replenishing warships and fleet tankers at sea and undertaking the bulk movement of fuels between naval supply depots.

Specifications for each ship differ somewhat, therefore figures below are illustrative.
