BODY ARMOUR National Institute of Justice (NIJ) Body Armour Standards A common industry standard for defining ballistic threat levels and testing requirements. The NIJ table defines the types of armour required to provide effective protection against varying ammunition and bullet velocities. Soft armour is required to prevent penetration from six consecutive bullets from two types of ammunition. Blunt trauma, impact to the body and effectiveness when wet are also factored into NIJ testing. Trueways Survival School - 'Civil Division' provides reality based Survival Training to the general public. A full time school with a good mix of ex-Special Forces and non-military personnel, courses are provided throughout the UK in numerous locations all year round. Course content is based on the original survival training courses delivered by 22 / 21 SAS and quality of work in numerous areas of the business is overseen by team member, and best selling author of the SAS Survival Handbook, Lofty Wiseman. However, delivery is of a friendly, non-military style and courses are suitable for people of most any age and fitness level.

Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Awareness Training

Weapons of mass destruction are increasingly widely available to military forces as well as international and domestic terrorist organisations. The use of NBC agents in recent regional conflicts has been documented in detail. In such incidents the risk of accidental or collateral damage is always present. The terrorist attack on the Tokyo subway in 1995, where chemicals were used for the first time, demonstrated dramatically the psychological and physical impact such an event has on the public and emergency services.

CIVILIANS ARE EXPOSED AND VULNERABLE In the event of an NBC incident civilians will become exposed to a hazardous environment where only effective hazard management, based on thorough training, suitable protective equipment and an understanding of the necessary survival skills will avert disaster.
