Storage Carousel Operating Principle

A Storage Carousel is made up of a series of shelves or carriers, which rotate in front of a picking station.

By employing otherwise inaccessible and unused high space, the required floor area for storage can be substantially reduced by up to 80%.

Items are retrieved by keying in the name, number or bar-code identification via a microcomputer, or in manual mode by keying in a level number on the built-in keyboard.

Single or double electric motors drive the carousel according to loading requirements.

The motors can be controlled by a speed controller, which enables the levels to rotate progressively and smoothly, giving average picking times of 10 seconds.

Automatic position control by an incremental encoder makes it possible to align the shelves precisely with the picking station and to obtain the minimum height between two levels.

Meeting Special Requirements for Storage Systems

• Anti Error systems:
  The operator can only access the correct item. All other items are behind closed flaps.

• Self-service storage units:
  Access is limited to a single location on the level (by access code) and all other items are locked behind closed flaps. This system is suited for self-service picking items stored.

• Ventilation, temperature:
  AMH supplies Storage Carousel units, which are often fitted with ventilation systems, constant temperature and humidity level maintenance systems and cooling units. These are used to store and preserve sensitive products such as electronic components, high value-added items, foodstuffs, liquids and medical products.

• Interfacing with the logistic environment:
  Storage Carousels can be adapted with special fittings to allow robots to extract items from them and can be served by conveyor belts.

• Heavy products:
  Heavy products can be handled by containers on bars fitted with rollers and shelves
  embedded with multi-directional bead bearings.

• Frequent options:
  Electric doors, fire detection systems and access by digital codes are often installed at our client’s request.

SmartPik

The SmartPik Range of software is our stand alone software suite. These packages are capable of providing all the functionality you will need to control the contents of your carousel system.
 

The suite is split in to two parts. The first is for industrial parts storage and the second for office filing systems.


Industrial

The industrial packages range starts from simple part location cross referencing to full stock control.

Office

The office packages have the option for simple document retrieval through to online document viewing.

PikLink

The PikLink range of software is used to link existing customers' stock control systems into the carousel. The carousels are then controlled directly by information from the existing stock management systems.

The idea of the PikLink range is to remove the need for duplication of data and eliminate the need for maintaining two databases. This removes the problems that arise when trying to keep two systems synchronised.

These products range from programming tools; to allow programmers to modify their own system and control carousels directly to list processing systems which process information received from a customers host system.

The AMH SWIFT - PIK STORAGE CAROUSEL

The AMH Data-Pik and Swift-Pik are vertical Storage Carousels designed for an office or industrial environment. These machines form a well established ideal solution for compressing storage space, speeding up product retrieval and improving stock management.

The height and width of the AMH Carousels can be adapted to the size of your premises and the containers you wish to store in it.

The AMH Swift-Pik VLM is a Vertical Storage Carousel Designed primarily for the industrial environment.

The AMH Data-Pik is very user friendly

The counter with built-in overhead task lighting runs the full width of the unit. This provides Data-Pik with its own workstation, allowing repeated references to the files to be done in comfort, on the spot.

A full width access tray along the front of the machine enables anything, which may have been accidentally dropped into the machine to be recovered quickly, easily and safely by the operator (no frustrating wait for a service engineer here!).

To operate any of the Data-Pik models is simplicity itself. On Level One models, the required shelf is quickly obtained by use of simple up and down control. On Level Two units, the shelf number is tapped into a keypad and the Data-Pik automatically delivers it in less than 10 seconds.

Data-Pik will hold all types of files – box, lever arch, etc. but perhaps the maximum efficiency can be gained by using it in combination with the legendary Cave Tab Colour Code Filing System.

The computer controlled Data-Pik is perhaps the ultimate in simplicity and efficiency. Just key in the file title and the correct level is delivered in seconds. In addition there are full Tracking facilities, so if a file’s out of the system, you know immediately where it should be.

Security is a strong point

Tambour doors slide across and the entire system is locked with just one key and safety comes as standard. There are no less than 5 separate safety devices: two safety trip bars, two light beams and an easily reached emergency stop. Should any of these be tripped on the Level Two or Computer Data-Pik, the cause will be indicated on screen.

THE PIROUETTE STORAGE SYSTEM
 

The Pirouette is a high density and fast retrieval storage system with double sided cabinets mounted on a heavy-duty rotary base. A 90-degree turn provides access to either shelf face without the operator moving from the spot.

More efficient than conventional filing cabinets, the Pirouette delivers open access filing quickly, reducing retrieval times by up to 50%.

It takes just two seconds to open the Pirouette and gain access to 12,160mm of filing.

The base unit does not move during the loading/unloading process, making it ideal for use with a fixed conveyor system or for manual loading. The boom can extend or retract to exactly where the operator requires in the vehicle, running in either direction, at speeds up to 30 metres per minute.

The telescopic belt conveyor range is available with boom extensions from 5.0m – 16m, with options for traverse movement and operator platforms.
