VT Shipbuilding, previously known as Vosper Thornycroft (UK) Ltd, remains an independent and successful company with a wide range of in-house expertise gained across a number of specialist areas. We are pleased to be able to offer some of these skills to industry.

VT Measurements Department

VT Shipbuilding is able to offer a consultancy service for ship and non-ship based applications as outlined below:

Airborne noise measurement and analysis
Structural vibration measurement and analysis
Temperature measurement, monitoring and control of over 200 channels
Temporary and permanent installation of shaft torsionmeter systems
Accurate vessel speed measurement during trials employing DGPS equipment

The department can undertake weapon system alignment, weapon datum setting, scribe lines, equipment/system alignment and surface flatness measurement.

The Measurements department are also able to provide a design & build service for the production of small special to type electronic/electro mechanical systems. Examples of this work include a gunnery check-fire system for the Royal Navy and Hellenic Navy and interface equipment for linking of fire alarm and public address systems.

VT Sonar Department

VT Shipbuilding has provided Sonar support to the UK MOD for over 30 years. This began with Sonar 193 in the early 1970s and has continued from 1980 to the present day with the refurbishment and upgrading of Sonar 2016/2050 equipment for the Royal Navy.

Our workshop facility includes in-water pressure testing, a full transducer testing facility and is equipped with overhead cranes capable of lifting up to 50 tonnes, which enable us to offer the new building, refurbishment or repair of the following equipments.

Naval sonar arrays
Sonar baffle assemblies and palliative treatments
Sonar domes
Handling, transportation and installation kits

The Sonar department is able to provide on-site, including in-water repairs to sonar arrays and associated equipment. We are also able to provide dry secure storage within our facility and are experienced in the control of GFA having recently retained our assurance classification after being audited by the Asset Accounting Centre.

All works are carried out in accordance with our ISO 9001 approved quality management systems, MOD BR's and statutory H & S legislation.
