AML UK
was formed in February 2000. With over 20 years of
experience within the armour trade. In February 2001 they
acquired the business of Plastechnol Ltd who had previously
supplied spall liners for all of UK military fighting
vehicles. January 2002 sees the beginning of the WaterJet
business in Herne Bay. In November 2003 AML UK acquired a
flat plate armour business of Meggitt. This included the
Bristol Armour production line. By March 2004 the company
sees further expansion through acquiring the assets of
Aviation and Marine composites in I.O.W. AML UK established
further grounding in March 2007 through joining forces with
Armotec Ltd.
AML UK is now one of the leading suppliers of armoured
materials in the U.K. They manufacture an extensive range of
products through a number of different processes; from
waterjet cutting to designing armour vehicles, from sewing
bomb blankets to moulding aircraft components.

ARMOUR AND SECURITY
ARMOTEC STEEL
Armotec Steel can be used for both military and civilian
applications. AML UK have specialist engineering and
fabrication services available to ensure that all of their
customers' requirements can be supplied.
Armotec Steel 400
Armotec Steel 400 has a lower hardness than HHS 500 plate.
It has enhanced blast protection provided by its increased
toughness and ductility.
Armotec Steel 500
Armotec Steel 500 armour plate has excellent ballistic
properties due to its high hardness and superior mechanical
properties.

ARAMID
Bristol Armour Aramid Panels are designed to protect
property and personnel from Ballistic Attack.
Aramid PF
Yellow Versions are made from either standard Polyester (PP)
resin or our fire retardant resin (PF) These have little
flex once moulded but are slightly more weight efficient
than the rubberised type.
Aramid PR
Black versions (PR) are made with a rubberised binder which
allows them to be bent after pressing. Typical applications
for these are floor pans and curved walls.

POLYETHYLENE
Bristol Armour Polyethylene Panels are designed to protect
property and personnel from Ballistic Attack.

BOMB BLANKETS
Bomb Blast Suppression Blankets are used to suppress the
blast fragmentation from an explosion that can cause damage
and injuries.

GLASS FIBRE
Bristol Armour Glass Fibre is manufactured from a fibre
reinforced opaque material, providing protection from shell
fragments, blast bullets and other projectiles.

PROFILING AND MACHINING
AML have comprehensive profiling and machining
facilities including CNC waterjet and laser cutting, CNC
routing and CNC brake press. They also have in-house CAD
drawing and modelling facilities, available to all of their
customers.
CAD DESIGN
AML has a comprehensive in house design facility with highly
skilled operators. They are capable of designing items from
simple shapes to extremely complex assemblies using
Solidworks Professional 2007 ™. They can also validate parts
designed to prove strength and durability using Cosmos works
2007 ™ .
AML are able to nest shapes onto sheets in a very efficient
manner saving time and material costs. Using Sigma nest ™.
It is also possible to digitise flat patterns of virtually
any size to an accuracy of 0.25mm, enabling parts to be
machined via CNC to increase repeatability and quality.

WATER JET CUTTING
AML's waterjet facilities offer a choice of twin head 2 axis
and single head 5 axis cutting, operating on a bed of 3600mm
x 2600mm. The waterjet allows for multiple layer cutting and
can profile a large range of materials up to 200mm thick.
They can work with your free issue material. Because there
are no tooling costs, production of prototypes through to
large quantity production runs are economical.
The cutting process provides:
-
Profiling of an extensive
range of materials
-
Accurate and blur free
profiles
-
Superb edge quality
-
Precise cutting tolerances
-
No heat affected zone (haz) or
distortion
Quality Assurance:
AML's extensively equipped inspection department ensures
that the products at AML UK meet the exact requirements of
their customers. The company is accredited to ISO 9001:2000.
Expertise:
AML's skilled and fully experienced programming and
operation staff will ensure your order is completed smoothly
and efficiently to suit your requirements.
-
In house CAD/CAM nesting for
economical use of materials
-
Free digitising of templates
and drawings
-
Fast turn around working from
your DXF files
-
Nationwide delivery and
collection service

LASER PROFILING
AML UK have in-house facilities to laser profile metal sheet
and plate. Their laser cutting service offers the
flexibility and facility to cut a variety of materials. AML
uses the latest 6 x 3m flat bed laser to produce high
quality finished components.
Advantages of laser profiling:
-
Maximum utilisation of
material
-
Cost effective - all machining
done in one setup
-
Clean burr free edges
-
Multi-part nesting resulting
in excellent repeatability
-
Maximum cutting area of 6000mm
x 3000mm for large single parts
-
Prototype to production
quantities
-
Minimal Distortion – process
is very accurate

BENDING
AML have the facilities on site to bend flat sheet
metal. The press brake used has a capacity of 700 tons and
is 6m in length.
The performance and precision of the machinery results in a
final product produced to the highest standard. Through
skilled workmanship, AML is able to produce variable
demanding bends; ram parallelism and both stopping accuracy
and repeatability of the bending depth are guaranteed by an
effective interface among the components of the machinery.
Quality and Consistency:
AML operates with CAD 3D explosion and Solidworks packages
assuring you that there are accurate multiple bends. All
work is carried out to ISO 9001 procedures and
documentation.
As most of AML's products are
tailor made to suit each customer's requirements, they have
specific information relating to each product available. If
