The 4th Division has military responsibility for South East England, including Bedfordshire, Essex and Hertfordshire and its headquarters is in Aldershot.

It was previously based in Germany until 1992 as an armoured division. The division now has four brigades under command:

2 Brigade based in Shorncliffe. This is a light role infantry brigade with battalions based in various locations.

43 (Wessex) Brigade in Exeter

145 (Home Counties) Brigade in Aldershot

16 Air Assault Brigade in Colchester. Administered by 4th Division but under the operational command of HQ Land Command and the Joint Helicopter Command.
