There are three
Regenerative Divisions based on older Military Districts. These
Regenerative Divisions are responsible for all Army Units within their
boundaries and could provide the core for the three new Divisions, should
the Army be required to expand to meet a major International threat.
During early 2009, the composition of 2nd Division was as follows:
The 2nd Division has responsibility for the whole of Scotland and Northern
England

The Divisional
Headquarters is in Edinburgh. The 2nd Division comprises three Brigades and a Garrison:
15 (North East) Brigade, with its
Headquarters in
York, is responsible for units in the North East of England.
38 (Irish) Brigade,
with its Headquarters in Lisburn
42 (North West) Brigade with its HQ in Preston
51 (Scottish) Brigade, has its Headquarters in
Stirling, responsible for all units north of Stirling including Shetland and
the Western Isles.
