FORMATIONS

2ND DIVISION

 

There are three Regenerative Divisions based on older Military Districts. These Regenerative Divisions are responsible for all Army Units within their boundaries and could provide the core for the three new Divisions, should the Army be required to expand to meet a major International threat. During early 2009, the composition of 2nd Division was as follows:

The 2nd Division has responsibility for the whole of Scotland and Northern England

The Divisional Headquarters is in Edinburgh. The 2nd Division comprises three Brigades and a Garrison:

15 (North East) Brigade, with its Headquarters in York, is responsible for units in the North East of England.

38 (Irish) Brigade, with its Headquarters in Lisburn

42 (North West) Brigade with its HQ in Preston

51 (Scottish) Brigade, has its Headquarters in Stirling, responsible for all units north of Stirling including Shetland and the Western Isles.

Catterick Garrison, including units in Ripon, Topcliffe and Dishforth.
